THE YEARS 2000-2009

2000

The Fernau six-seater chairlift starts operating in November. Skiers can now enjoy skiing all around Schaufelspitze. Eight closing days due to avalanche danger, nine due to storm.

For a decade now around one million guests annually (+/- 10% weather depending). Building of the new Jochdohle restaurant according to plans by architect DI Peter Kaserer. Jochdohle floats above ground and is fixed to the rock face.

2001

Opening of the new Jochdohle restaurant, building of the Daunferner II T-bar lift, further development of the snow-making facilities at Eisjochferner, new snow-making facilities at Wilde Grub'n. - Opening of the Murmele six-seater chairlift at Gamsgarten (for beginners).

In December the Ski Club Micky Maus is founded - a cooperation between the Stubaier Gletscherbahn lifts, the Neustift tourist board and the Walt Disney Company.

Training on the theme "From content employees to content guests". Seven closing days due to avalanche danger and six due to storm - still 1,035,000 persons transported!

2002

The world's biggest Summer Freeride Snowboard Camp, SPC55 on the Stubai Glacier.

Opening of the newly built restaurant for children (Ski Club Mickey Maus club house, 260 seats) at Gamsgarten. - Building of the Goldschrofen avalanche gallery. New 25-kV-trafo station. Three radio-controlled avalanche triggering poles in the Schaufelspitze area. The sewer lines are connected to the public sewage system. - The Sport-Scheck Glacier Testival with more than 40 exhibitors has become the highlight of the season opening. 2nd Stubai Telemark Festival with 200 telemark skiers.

2003

Perfect weather conditions in spring. New record year in the history of the Stubai Gletscherbahn lifts with 1.24 million transported guests. Building of the Schaufeljoch 8-seater gondola. Smooth progress of building works thanks to perfect weather conditions. Tropical weather conditions over several weeks in the Alps. Continuous snow melting over weeks. Temperatures do not drop in the night.

Munich-based Skiresort Service International ranks the Stubai Glacier ski area among the ten best ski areas of the world. In the special ranking for regional ski areas the Stubai Glacier is ranked number one of the world and receives the highest ranking as "insiders' tip".

The Ski Club Mickey Mouse project is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Economy in the category of "Destination and Tourist Organisation".

2004

The Schaufeljoch 8-seater gondola starts operating. The Stubaier Gletscherbahnen lifts celebrate their 30-year anniversary. Altogether up to 156.4 million Euros have been invested without any public subsidies! Less people access the ski area because of extreme weather conditions (minus 10.2%).

The Stubai glacier ski areas is elected being the Ski Area of 2004 by the DSV Skiatlas and Aktiv magazine! 220 persons work there all year, another 80 have seasonal employment.

2005

Again extreme weather conditions. Investments: reservoir at Gamsgarten: 2.6million Euros (66,000m³). Extension of snow making facilities. Acquisition of further piste bullies - our pistes are internationally renowned for being perfectly groomed!

The Skiresort Service International online portal ranks the Stubai Glacier among the Top 10 Ski Areas of the World in the season of 2004/05.

The Falk Skiatlas ranks the "Kingdom of Snow" among the top five ski resorts of Europe in the category of "Best for Families".

2006

In time for the opening of the ski season the German SkiMAGAZIN ranks the Stubai Glacier as Number One of the TOP TEN European Glaciers. Decisive criteria of the editorial team of the magazine: the number of interesting piste kilometres.

The Stubai Glacier receives the Tirolean Quality Seal for Pistes.

The municipal council headed by Mayor Peter Schönheer decides to honour Dr. Heinrich Klier for his services for the Stubai valley with a honorary citizenship. Cermony and mass attended by Prof. Dr. Andreas Khol, President of the Austrian National Council and Provincial Governor DDr. Herwig van Staa.

2007

Mag. Reinhard Klier, the youngest son of Dr. Klier is elected into the management. In October the new base station of the Stubai Glacier starts operation: roof-covered access area, access without stairs to the lifts, Austria's biggest ski and boot storage depot. Investment volume: 6.8 million Euros (architects: DI Andreas Orgler and DI Walter Niedrist).

The Daunferner double chairlift replaces the Wildspitz double chairlift. It leads to an altitude of 3,210m (highest located lift of the Stubai Glacier). Investment volume: 1.8 million Euros. Extension of the snow-making facilities for even better snow assurance. Investment volume: 0.9 million EUR.

2008

BIG Family Children and Youth Ski Camp: Shaggy B.BIG is the new mascot. Child-care for children from 3-15 years is offered.

Building of the Daunscharte glacier lift and operation start in November: with a length of 833 metres the Daunscharte glacier lifts makes two new pistes at Daunferner accessible. Capacity: 1,200 persons per hour - Investment volume: 1.2 million Euros.

Opening of the Family and 50+ piste on Daunferner, unique in Austria.

MOREBOARDS Stubai Zoo snow terrain park is opened on Gaisskarferner.

Number of inhabitants in Neustift: 4,463.

2009

Planning and building of an employee building in Neustift/Neder - Base Camp Stubai Glacier. Modern apartments and flats for more than 100 employees. Completion in October.

Building of the Fernau reservoir with a capacity of 50,000m³.

Rebuilding and extension of the Eisgrat station: Renewing of the house and kitchen technology and the electrics. A spacious entrance area gives access to the enlarged Intersport Shop from autumn 2010 onwards. Extension of the self-service restaurant to a market restaurant with free flow, exquisite culinary delights. Project sum: 9.8 million Euros. Completion: autumn 2010.
