In the winter of 2021/22 too, several SAAC Basic Camps take place on the Stubai Glacier.
The SAAC Camps are 2-day trainings around the topics of risk management for freeriding and how to rescue your comrades in an emergency situation. The camps are offered by certified mountain and ski guides and they will inform you on the dangers and correct behaviour in the backcountry in theory and practice.
Day 1 - Theory
Time: 4:00 p.m. to approx. 7:00 p.m.
- type of avalanches,
- terrain shapes,
- avalanche danger levels,

To illustrate the topics, the current avalanche situation is analysed, the weather observed more closely and the area explored. Different routes are also analysed.
Day 2 - Practice

On day 2 the theory learned during the previous day is put into practice. Different exercises are carried out in the field.

- check of the terrain,
- decision-making support,
- rules of conduct,
- search of avalanche victims
For this camp, you should bring your own ski/ snowboard equipment and an (avalanche) backpack. Please bring your emergency equipment including avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, if available. If you don’t have avalanche safety equipment, you can rent it for free on site.
