The BIG Family Park & Powder Days on the Stubai Glacier offer ski and snowboard enthusiasts aged 10 and over an unforgettable experience. While the Park Days introduce youngsters to the world of freestyle, including their first attempts on rails, boxes and kickers, the Powder Days are all about risk-minimised skiing in deep snow. In addition to a freeski coach and a state-certified mountain and ski guide, participating kids and parents also gave us their impressions of the BIG Family Park & Powder Days 2025.

Freestyle fun at the BIG Family Park Days

The BIG Family Park Days are all about jumps, slides and spins. Freeski coach Flo Müller knows what's important: "It's great fun to work with motivated kids. At the end of the day, they always have a smile on their face because they've learnt something and had a great day."

However, coaching also brings challenges, as the age groups and abilities are a colourful mix. "You have to organise training in such a way that it remains exciting for everyone. Basic work is the key here - even advanced skiers benefit from working on the basics again, practising a different direction of rotation, etc.," explains Flo.

The first tricks for beginners are easy to do. "Small, safe jumps, first slides on a low box and basic techniques such as riding backwards or simple turning movements are the best start," says the coach. For parents who want to support their children, he advises: "Approach it step by step, first look at the obstacles together and observe how others do it, as well as learning the basic rules of behaviour in the park." Flo Müller generally recommends that all kids and teens and their parents take part in professional events such as the Park & Powder Days if possible, because this means that expert coaches are on hand.

The young participants confirm the success of the event: Lisanne (14 years old) reports: “I've learnt how to jump properly and am now much more confident. I can now ride over the boxes and also backwards, I can do a few tricks on the piste and spins.” Ida (10 years old) is enthusiastic about the boxes: “I enjoyed them the most!” The kids all agree that it was helpful to learn tricks from the coaches and to better understand how they work.

Not only the kids and teens, but also the parents are impressed by the BIG Family Park & Powder Days. Daniel, father of one of the participants, praises the trainers: "The little tips made all the difference. Julius is now working on his 180 - almost there!" Sophie, who took part with her children, proves that parents also benefit from the event: “Last year I didn't dare go to the park, but the kids persuaded me - now I'm totally happy that I did it. I'll keep doing the exercises with them and come back next year!”

Learning to assess risks at the BIG Family Powder Days

Off the pistes, the Powder Days are all about minimising risk in open terrain. Mountain guide Patrick Ribis, head of the Freeride Center Stubai, emphasises the importance of guided tours: "Freeriding requires a lot of knowledge. Our Powder Department and events such as the BIG Family Powder Days are the perfect introduction - here you learn how to use emergency equipment and can reduce the risk. And it also gives parents a better feeling."

Challenges? Patrick doesn't see any for himself: “We mountain guides are used to working with different levels. That's our daily business.” His enthusiasm for guiding is palpable: “It's fun to pass on our passion for powder snow and freeriding in the area where I grew up myself.”

The workshops leave an impression: Lisanne (14 years old) found the training with the avalanche search devices particularly exciting: “It was really cool to do these exercises in the snow.” At the same time, the seriousness is evident: “I'm taking away from the event that I should be more careful off-piste in future and generally not go off-piste so quickly - an avalanche can really start faster than you think.”

An event for the whole family

The BIG Family Park & Powder Days not only inspire children, but also their parents. Sophie has already recommended the event to others: “Unfortunately, our friends didn't have time, but next year a few of them will definitely come along.”
