Summer is here – and so is the search for the perfect family getaway. As temperatures rise in the valley, the Stubai Glacier offers refreshing coolness, breathtaking views, and a true highlight for little (and not-so-little) explorers: the children’s playground at the Eisgrat mountain station, perched at 2,888 meters.
Wollie the Mammoth – Giant-Size Climbing, Playing, and Sliding
You can’t miss it from afar: “Wollie,” the six-meter-tall wooden mammoth, is the centerpiece of the playground. Kids can climb in through its legs—using a climbing wall, a rope, or ladder-like steps. Inside, two levels await with a colorful Connect Four game, glacier-view peepholes, a sand lift, and a tipping chute. And the best part? The ride down is a fast slide—right through the trunk!
Groomie – The Snow Groomer Playground
Right next to Wollie, another highlight is sure to make kids’ eyes light up: “Groomie,” the ten-meter-long wooden snow groomer. Little vehicle fans can hop into the driver’s cab, climb across the suspension bridge, wobble on the snow tiller, or discover the memory game on the loading ramp. Groomie is adventure, imagination, and playground all in one—perfect for climbing, relaxing, and exploring.
Family time with a glacier view
While the kids play to their heart’s content and explore the world of the glacier, parents can sit back and enjoy the view: The sun terrace of the Eisgrat restaurant offers the perfect spot to relax with a cool drink or a fresh coffee—right within sight of the lively playground and the stunning glacier backdrop.
Whether as the main destination for an active family outing or a special stop during a summer day on the glacier, the playground at Eisgrat is a place full of adventure, nature, and unforgettable moments. It’s easily accessible via the 3S Eisgratbahn and ideal for hot summer days.
