Sometimes it doesn't take much - a few days off, clear mountain air and a place where you feel completely at ease. If you are looking for a short break that combines a mountain experience, relaxation and modern living, the Stubai Valley is just the place for you. Flying high: a day on the Stubai Glacier
The eternal ice of the Stubai Glacier is just a 30-minute drive from the hotel - an experience for the whole family, even in summer. Even the ascent with the modern gondolas of the 3S Eisgratbahn is spectacular. Continue with the Schaufeljochbahn up to over 3,000 meters. A must for every visit: the spectacular Top of Tyrol viewing platform at 3,210 meters. Once at the top, a panorama opens up that takes the breath away of even die-hard mountain fans like us every time.
Hiking with a view
For families who want to actively explore the glacier, there are various hikes between the Eisgrat mountain station and Fernau middle station - easy to walk and also doable with children. The glacier trail, which follows the course of the water, is scenically exciting and varied. Along imposing glacial striations and moraines of the Eisjoch Ferner, the trail leads steadily downhill, initially over rocks criss-crossed by watercourses and later over a green high plateau and a leisurely hiking trail to the Fernau middle station.
This is also the starting point of an equally rewarding alternative for those who want to hike at slightly lower altitudes. A circular hike of around 2.9 kilometers starts directly at the Dresdner Hütte up to the idyllically situated Egesensee lake and from there continues over the Egesennieder. Always in view: the glacier and the surrounding mountain peaks. A well-surfaced path leads back to the starting point.
Both tours offer impressive views of the glacier and, especially on hot summer days, the opportunity to rest and refresh yourself by the water.
Stop off, enjoy & play
When hunger strikes after the hike, it's off to the Eisgrat mountain station at 2,888 meters. On the sun terrace of the Eisgrat restaurant, you can not only enjoy first-class Austrian cuisine, but also the panoramic views.
And best of all: the high-altitude playground is right next door, so the children can play while their parents enjoy a coffee and cake. Both younger and older children can have fun in the 6-metre-high wooden mammoth Wollie, complete with slide, and in the Groomie, the brand new full-size wooden snowcat for playing and bobbing.
Lean back & relax at ELVA
Back at the ELVA, pure relaxation awaits. The outdoor pool in the garden is a real treat after a day in the mountains - surrounded by the mountain scenery of the Stubaital and with a view of the many paragliders in the air, it's a wonderful place to unwind. Those who prefer even more peace and quiet will find their retreat in the stylish Sky Spa: with a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam bath and cozy relaxation rooms with a view of the surrounding peaks, the wellness area offers ideal conditions to let body and soul come to rest.
